Homo Sovieticus – Resilient Species

With the Soviet Union dead and gone, a lot has changed in the world, but nothing very seriously has been altered on the territory of the former Evil Empire.  I will have to humbly recognize that fifteen brand new independent units have been added to the international family of nations, capitalism has made headway in almost all of them, a completely new way of life has become commonplace and private ownership was perpetuated in place of that unbearably detestable socialist one;

Russia was formally relegated to the role of an equal partner instead of brashly dominating as a big brother over smaller soviet nations, former Soviet citizens have been given right to travel worldwide, and emission-test-failing foreign-made cars have been put in the streets all over. Yes, that is a huge change! Could a typical Homo Sovieticus wish for anything better than this? Probably not! And they should not either! After all, only two short decades have elapsed since the Big Soviet Bang, and we cannot technically expect more than has actually happened. But there is something terribly important that lingers on and never changes – the way of thinking and behaving in the former USSR! I have seen, and I have myself been a Homo Sovieticus, and I think I could be trusted in terms of evaluating this very special type of a human being with a specific mindset that was created by the Marxist-Leninist ideology, persistently hammering it in all over the land, equal to one-sixth of the Earth. Homo Sovieticus is a strong species and it is an undoubtful survivor which may last into tens of years to come. The creature used to be reviled everywhere in the world. I remember we always heard derogatory references addressed to the poor Homo Sovieticus. They have certain good features too, like reading voraciously and studying diligently. The Soviet Union is no longer around but Homo Sovieticus is still extant. Its extermination will not happen any time soon no matter how hard the new and upcoming generations try their best. It has acquired a gene-like property, remaining in the species until something drastic or cataclysmic happens with the innate nature of this unique bio-political class. Homo Sovieticus powerfully influences its progeny in every possible way. For example, one can easily tell the children of strongly distinctive Homo Sovieticus form the children of other descendence graph model. The power of survival of this Soviet-type creature is so miraculous that even Darwin’s knowledge and expertise might defy explaining the enigmatic phenomenon. This is like count Dracula’s son or daughter might not be counts themselves because of the contemporary tendency of deriding all kinds of erstwhile ranks and titles, but they will definitely inherit the two fangs, biting into the human flesh for blood-sucking purpose. This species seems to be uncannily resilient, and still, the fortunate impression is that the Homo Sovieticus is slowly but surely disappearing from Georgia, but the regretful fact is that Russia and most of the remaining part of the former USSR is still densely populated with the resilient human breed of Homo Sovieticus. Maybe this is one of the reasons of Putin’s political longevity in Russia. After all he is a typical Soviet worker, and certainly, Homo Sovieticus will never betray the guy. Isn’t Vladimir lucky, to say the least?
