“Diane Kruger Admitted to Being a Fan of My Footwear”
Tengiz Charkviani, a London-based, 33-year-old Georgian designer, is known under the name CHARKVIANI and is quite successful. He mostly works on women’s shoes and the list of his clients includes some prominent celebrities.
Charkviani is well-educated and has a record of working with n iconic British fashion designer and couturier Alexander McQueen. In an interview with Georgian Journal he shared the story of his carrier.

“People such as Ellie Golding, Nicole Scherzinger from Pussycat Dolls, Nicola Roberts and Nadine Coyle from
Girls Aloud, Eliza Doolittle and Natalie Dorma from Game of Thrones are my clients.”

– Let’s start with your biography. How did your career start?

– I was born and raised in Tbilisi. Art and fashion have always been a major interest of mine but sadly, pursuing them as a career didn’t really fly in the 90s. Thus, I decided to move to London to find myself and my way in life.
I was able to get enrolled into London University of Arts – one of the most prestigious art/fashion universities in the world – where I completed a year-long course in womenswear design and a 4-year-long course in shoe design. Prior to starting my shoe design course, I managed to secure a work placement with Alexander McQueen, where I worked for a year designing prints and artwork for showpieces.

“One of the major fashion magazines in England is recommending Kate Middleton to wear geotv.geshoesdesigned by me.”

– Can you name famous clients that you worked with?

– The most famous person I’ve ever made anything for was Beyoncé. It was during the three-year period of my collaboration with Julien Macdonald, which is still in force. Julien made the dress and gave it to me to customize and put finishing strokes on it. The result was amazing.
As for shoes, people such as Ellie Golding, Nicole Scherzinger from Pussycat Dolls, Nicola Roberts and Nadine Coyle from Girls Aloud, Eliza Doolittle, Natalie Dorma from Game of Thrones and many others are among my clients.
My other celebrity news is Diane Kruger admitting to being a fan of my footwear and one of the major fashion magazines in England recommending Kate Middleton to wear it.

– Did you expect to achieve such success?

– I don’t think I’ve achieved even 10 percent of what I want to achieve, so it’s still early to talk about that.

“The most famous person I’ve ever made anything for was Beyoncé.”

– How would you comment on Georgian people’s sense of fashion?

– Georgian people have a very specific style. It’s much closer to Italian style than British one – more classic and safe. Ideally, I would really like Georgia to become more open-minded about clothing and less judgmental about what other people wear.

– How would you describe your style? What inspires you when creating products and do you think that they will become part of everyday fashion?

– I don’t really know what my style is. I think it is a mix of loads of different things that I went through during my developing stages in London.
When I first arrived here I got obsessed with a gothic style. Therefore, all my clothes were black; I used to walk around like an undertaker, dressed fully in black with a massive top hat and tailcoat.
This lasted for quite a few years, but got taken over by my punk phase. Ripped skinny jeans with bondage belts and vintage ripped jackets and jumpers. I even shaved my head into a mohawk and bleached it.
A few years later I started dressing like a New York club kid in the 80s and early 90s, wearing the most random mix of clothes. I used to do my grocery shopping in black rubber leggings and Mickey Mouse ears. I absolutely love my every phase and I think they’ve made me who I am right now and developed my style into what it is.
Every collection that I create has different themes. It all depends on what I’m doing, reading or watching at the time. But I still take a lot of influences from religion, punk and goth. They have played a major part in my life and they are kind of embedded in me. I don’t normally think about what is going to be in fashion as such. I just do whatever feels right at that moment.
