Georgian twins in the new of Star Wars episode
These are the very droids you are looking for

For those still unfamiliar with Star Wars, it is a famous fictional saga that features six films and an immense franchise. Its emergence was a real revolution in filmmaking and had a huge influence on development of its respective genre. Its movies have received a total of ten Oscars and are considered to be some of the greatest box office hits to this day. In December
of 2016, a seventh episode of the saga is scheduled for release, with its cast including, among many recognizable faces, Georgian sisters Lika and Tea Shengelaia, known as The Healer Twins. Georgian Journal has contacted Tea to find out more, and this is what she told us:

– Me and Lika were born in Moscow; our father used to work there as a doctor. In 1991 he was offered a job in UAE. He accepted and moved there, taking us along. After finishing school, we returned to Georgia to receive medical education. Then we left for Dubai again and joined our father in his trade. However, we occasionally participated in movie castings as well.
– Is this how you ended up participating in the upcoming episode of Star Wars?

– Yes. We were encouraged to try our luck at one of the castings. Lika was a bit shy about it initially, but was convinced to participate anyway. Two weeks after the casting, we received a phone call saying that we were selected and confirmed for a role in Star Wars. J. J. Abrams, the director, thought us to be Americans at first, and was very surprised when we told him about our Georgian origins. In turn, he surprised us by his quite extensive knowledge about Georgia.

In accordance with our contract, we weren’t allowed to appear on any photos with our make-up or costumes, so our phones were taken away whenever we came to the shooting grounds. Mind you, they spent seven months building them, with all the pavilions and decorations.
Me and Lika, being twins, play a similar role in the movie. Although it is a low-key role, director Abrams assured us that it will be very memorable. During the shooting, we had a privilege to work with a world-class photographer (we are not allowed to reveal any names, though) who held a photo session in the desert. When he was done, we asked him if we could see the photos. He responded by telling us to wait a bit, since after the movie premiered, there wouldn’t be a movie theater, a magazine or an internet wall without these photographs plastered all over.

Another photo session that we participated in was aimed at helping create 3D models to later serve as a basis for action figures and video game characters. Therefore, after the movie’s release in December, our likenesses will be both available in plastic and featured in a game.

– How large were the royalties you received for your roles?

– Although they would never compare to the ones paid to Hollywood stars, they were more than substantial for us.
