Kikliko – Crispy Georgian toast with ajika sauce and sulguni
Kikliko is a Georgian breakfast that in some way resembles the French toast, yet in comparison with the latter it is not sweet . Usually Georgian toast is prepared plainly with egg, milk and bread but you can conduct experiments based on your taste as well. Here we present to you the recipe of kikliko with slightly different and piquant flavor. The secret of this delicious toast lies in the main ingredient – Georgian spicy sauce called ajika.

Ingredients:


1
egg
1 tablespoon milk
Sprinkle of salt
1 tablespoon green onions
1 tsp of ajika (spicy Georgian sauce made from chili pepper)
Pinch of red dry basil
2 slices thick bread, preferably day-old
One tablespoon of butter
Sulguni cheese to taste

Preparation:

Beat together egg and milk. Add chopped green onion, ajika, basil, salt and mix well. Melt butter over medium heat in the pan. Place each slice of bread into the egg mixture and let it soak .Fry kikliko on both sides in the pan over medium heat until golden brown. If you like, sprinkle the almost ready toast with grated sulguni cheese and cover it with lid for few minutes. When the cheese is melted, place the ready toast on dish and serve it with sour cream or ajika sauce on the top.
