Timeless Georgia animation - Happy International Animation Day
28 October, 2016
Today, on October 28, the world celebrates the International Animation Day (IAD). In recent years, the event has been observed in more than 50 different countries with more than 1000 events, on every continent, all over the world. IAD was initiated by ASIFA, International Animated Film Association, a member of UNESCO. Despite the fact that at present this sphere is not well-developed in Georgia, it has 95-year historical heritage of different kinds of moving pictures. Here we present a still from one of the most famous and beloved Georgian cartoons, Tsuna and Tsrutsuna dating back to 1955 and telling a lovely story of mice with visible influence of traditional cultural features of the country. It is noteworthy that some of the artists, such as Ana Chubinidze who has worked on the first joint Georgian–French project “Pocket Man”, have already started reviving this animation in Georgia.
