Most famous Rachan: Choreographer and musician Datunika Skhirtladze dies

A few days ago, the Georgian folklore community was devastated by the death of Datunika Skhirtladze. The most famous Rachan, choreographer, the author of a well-known song ‘Tashi, bicho, Giorguna’ and ‘Rachuli’ dance, died in his native town of Ambrolauri, while performing on-stage.

Skhirtladze’s funeral took place today, on January 3. Today, an hour before the funeral ceremony, his first and long-awaited son was born. This touching fact was spread via social network by Datunika’s friends.  

‘The entire Racha and the rest of Georgia were devastated by the sudden death of Datunika Skhirtladze. But he lives on… Only the chosen ones die this way… and the miracle happened today. His son was born into this world. May god bless him and make his life happy’, - Nana Chalidze writes.

‘Along with such a heartbreaking story, we have good news as well – an hour before Datunika’s funeral, his son was born. He was soon to be 60 years old and this is his first child. He was waiting for this moment all his life but did not live to see it’, - Giorgi Ushikishvili, the leader of Lashari folk ensemble writes on his facebook page.

The newborn was named David-Theodore.

Datunika Skhirtladze was born in Ambrolauri, into the family of artists. His father was a dramatist and a poet. Davit Skhirtladze was a member of two popular bands - Shin and Egari.
