In relation to Orthodox Christmas special service is held in all churches of Georgia that is eventually followed by tradition Festive march named “Alilo” after Georgian version of Hallelujah Christmas song. Thousands of people participate in this wonderful event: the clergy of different churches, parishioners and children wearing the “stiqari”- a gold, white or red colored robe worn by a priest’s assistant.

Another eye caching feature is all the little children dressed like angels and adults like Shepherds, similar to the scene of magi visiting infant Jesus in the stable.

The march starts in the morning in the streets of Tbilisi with thousands of people marching and singing the “Alilo” song. On their way they gather sweets, fruit and other types of food, which at the end of the march is usually given to socially vulnerable citizen and to orphanages. This is the day when people express love, warmth and support in the name of Jesus Christ.
