Guram Sagharadze – Renowned Georgian actor would turn 88 today

On January 12, 1929 a celebrated Georgian actor Guram Sagharadze was born. The actor’s career counted more than 60 years and a number of roles. Guram Sagharadze left significant trace in Georgian theatre as well as cinema. He was granted many prizes and titles such as People's Artist of Georgia (1973), Shota Rustaveli State Prize (1976), the USSR State Prize (1979), the Order of Honour of Georgia (1998) and the State Prize of Georgia (1999). Guram Sagaradze earned his fame on the stage of Rustaveli Theatre and was remembered for his iconic roles, especially for playing Prince Kazbeki in Robert Sturua's production of The Caucasian Chalk Circle by Bertolt Brecht. The actor also starred in many Georgian films. Sagaradze passed away aged 84, in Tbilisi on January 17, 2013. He was buried at the Didube Pantheon.
