Happy Hugging Day – Famous Georgian author and his wife
21 January, 2017
January 21st marks the Hugging Day. The day was first celebrated on January 21, 1986 in Clio, Michigan, USA. Since then the holiday has been observed annually in many other countries. The idea of this day is to express warmth, love and to hug close people, family members and friends. Kevin Zaborney, the person behind this idea, chose January 21 as it fell between the Christmas/New Year Holidays and Valentine's Day, as well as birthdays when he found people are generally in low spirits. The author thought that American society was embarrassed to show feelings in public and Hugging Day would change this attitude. In relation to this day, we present to you an iconic vintage photo featuring outstanding Georgian writer Nodar Dumbadze hugging his wife Nanuli Gugunava warmly. The second photo depicts a scene from his well-known literary adaptation ‘Granny, Iliko, Illarion, and I’, directed in 1960, depicts grandson hugging his granny. Both images serve as a prefect demonstration that Georgian people are very emotional and warm.
