Georgian National Costume Day marked in Georgia
18 May, 2017
Georgian National Costume Day is a recently established celebration marked on May 18. On this day not only Georgian dancers but ordinary citizens clad in national costumes once again demonstrate the beauty of traditional Georgian clothes. As a rule, the day is celebrated by marching across the city wearing Georgian clothes.

The person behind the idea of establishing Georgian National Costume Day is Davidt Goglichidze. Davit gathered a group of people, signed a petition and turned his idea into reality.

Georgian national costumes stand out for their diversity, the beauty of their ornaments and different characteristics depending on which region they come from. They convey the old history and culture of Georgian people.  This image features two iconic and legendary Georgian dancers Iamze Dolaberidze and Pridon Sulaberidze performing Georgian dance in 1983.
