09 November, 2017
Autumn is one of the most attractive and charming seasons in Georgia, especially in highlands.

The image depicts autumn landscape in Upper Svaneti, a picturesque beautiful historic region in the northwestern part of the country.

Situated on the southern slopes of the central Caucasus Mountains and surrounded by 3,000–5,000 meter peaks, Svaneti is the highest inhabited area not only in in the Caucasus but Europe as well.

Four of the 10 highest peaks of the Caucasus are located in the region. It is home to the highest mountain in Georgia, Mountain Shkhara at 5,201 meters (17,059 feet).

Svaneti has two parts corresponding to two inhabited valleys:

Lower Svaneti (Kvemo Svaneti) on the upper Tskhenistsqali River; administratively part of Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti; main town Lentekhi.

This amazingly beautiful photo is taken near Iphari community, one of the oldest communities in Mestia municipality.  It consists of  4 villages: Adishi, Bogreshi, Zegani and Nakifari. Bogreshi Village is the center of the community.

The area is distinguished with its unique nature and exotic beauty. It is also famous for its alpine flowers and unique plant species.
