Testing before our eyes...
Georgian helmet and armoured vest of Georgian Army

On 10 February, Special Forces staged a successful fire testing of armoured helmets and vests on the Vashlijvari shooting ground (located in a Tbilisi suburb). The Georgian products passed the test in presence of the Special Forces. The helmets withstood bullets shot from TT and Glock pistols at a five-meter distance. Interestingly, armoured vests managed to hold off bullets shot from an AKM automated rifle and even armour-piercing sniper SVD. The Georgian
armoured helmets and vests proved to be superior.
Then I conceived to test the specimen of the individual defence in a more severe condition. The Delta management accepted my suggestion.
The shooting took place at a 5m distance. We used Soviet semi-automatic TT pistol and 7.62 x 25 mm calibre bullets covered in steel.
We hit the helmet with the 7.62mm bullets from a TT pistol and observed the hits closely. We clearly saw that no bullet has made it through.
Interestingly, one bullet arrived in the lower part of the helmet (at the level of a soldier’s ear) where protection is relatively weak. However, even this bullet failed to penetrate the helmet. We extracted remains of the bulletin from the composite layers of the helmet. Eventually, the body armour attained III-A class on NIJ scale, one of the highest in the world.
Another noteworthy thing is an amortization system of the helmet, created by Georgian specialists. According to the Special Forces, a Georgian helmet is more comfortable to wear than an American one.
After finishing with the armoured helmet, we proceeded with testing the armoured vest. The shooting distance was 10m. We had to hit marks of one Lari coins in size separated with 5cm intervals. We shot them with weapons of different calibres, including from SVD and AKM Soviet sniper rifles and five Georgian automatic rifles.
Altogether, we shot 10 SVD bullets. All of them stuck in the mild armoured vest. These were 7.62x54R type light LPS bullets, not armour-piercing B-32. Although the bullets could not fully poke the mild armoured vest, the bullet heads did slightly jut out (by 1-2mm) of the inner side of the armoured plate. Such little holes however do not pose any threat because the plates are well protected inside frames made of composite material. Thus, the vest in its entirety is TT bullet proof and has no need of extra protective plate.
The new armoured plate then was treated to seven armour-piercing bullets shot from SVD at a 10 meter range. After each shot I was becoming growingly sure that Georgian specialists at Delta indeed did a great job by creating the absolutely reliable armoured protection for Georgian soldiers. The rigid armoured plate withstood every armour-piercing bullet. Interestingly, after subjecting the plate to the onslaught of the hefty seven bullets, I raised the stakes and immediately fired three AKM bullets at the same plate. The latter managed to counter these killer shots, even if the previous seven almost destroyed its insides (the plate consists of hexagonal ceramic particles). Thus, the rigid armoured plate made of composite ceramic material performed superbly and was given the status of IV class (highest) protection on the NIJ scale.
Delta did not forget women soldiers either. They made a special armoured vest that closely fits women body shape.
