Russian soldiers working on restoration of the Abkhazian railway

Russian Deputy Defense Minister Dmitry Bulgakov said Russian soldiers are working on putting the railway of Abkhazia back into order . As Bulgakov told reporters, the Russian railway troops were sent to Abkhazia for that purpose in July.

"At the request of the government of Abkhazia, Russian railway troops arrived in Abkhazia in July. All efforts are being carried out in the interests of civilian population and are aimed at regulating railway traffic within the republic,”- said Bulgakov.

500 soldiers
and 50 special vehicles are working to restore a 33-kilometer section of the railway. As the Russian Deputy Defense Minister suggests, the repairs will be completed by December.

According to Bulgakov, the mentioned section of the railway has remained inactive since the Georgian-Abkhazian War of 1992-1993.
