Changing Georgian-Russian border and more - Weekly Summary by Mark Mullen
14 June, 2013
Welcome to the June 6 Weekly Summary with Mark Mullen. This week Mark discusses the main issues of the week. Mark speaks about the story that National Opera of Paris has canceled the concert of Georgian soprano Tamar Iveri because of homophobic statements on Facebook.
Mark Mullen pays attention to the fact that the Russian army moved a fence on the Georgian border. He also speaks about European Parliament members visit and official meetings in Georgia. Mark emphasizes James Appathurai’s
statements that Georgia must answer questions regarding the arrest of former senior officials and the 17th of May events.
In addition Mark discusses Georgian National Security issues. Ivanishvili wondered why the Secretary of National Security Council Giga Bokeria receives a salary. After that Saakashvili called a meeting, but Ivanishvili didn’t attend. Despite Parliament Speaker Davit Usupashvili and the Ministers participated in the meeting.
Mark Mullen mentions Vano Merabishvili case too. European Parliament member visited the Former Prime Minister in prison. He said that Merabishvili feels well, but he doesn’t have a TV set and any contact with his relatives.
Other topics of the week are: Interior Minister Irakli Gharibashvili stated that archives saved by previous authorities will be destroyed, Kaladze’s farewell match, Georgian 9 years old boy on daylymail.com, MP davit Saganelidze with vodka during his flight to Kutaisi Parliament session, case of two priests in Tbilisi city court and much more – So sit back and enjoy.

The original audio podcast version of this content can be found at TBLpod.com, recorded locally on Rustaveli Avenue. Each week Mark and his excellent team of researchers, experts and analysts put together a summary of what has happened in Georgia and why. Years of experience and contacts in this country help them provide a context for the news each week. Their discussions give a uniquely candid perspective, which is difficult to find anywhere else, even in Georgian, and which [we must note] is their personal opinion and not that of any organization or company they or we may work for or represent, including Palitra. For this reason Mark and his team have an audience from all over the world and, even more interestingly, a devoted audience of Georgian listeners interested in their outlook on current events. Thanks for tuning in. Please come back next week.
