‘Confidential information should not be made public‘

‘We are surprised that the Georgian authorities have made public information under the secret instruction…‘

The National Gendarmerie of France provided the Georgian party with video footage of a meeting between “thieves-in-law” who are heads of the criminal network and Goga Khaindrava. The video footage provided by French law enforcers was introduced to the media by the Chief prosecutor Murtaz Zodelava. As he said, the material concerns a significant issue for the state’s national interests.

Zodelava says the aim of the meeting between

thieves-in-law and opposition representatives was to cause destabilization in Georgia, to create “Mkhedrioni” type armed formations and restoration of thieves’ “influence”.

Zodelava said that on 25 September, on the basis of mediation of Georgia’s Ministry of Justice, with the permission of French court, Georgian law enforcers were officially given this material. As he said, information is in the Georgian language and is an exact translation of information provided by the gendarmerie of France. Georgian law enforcers are conducting an investigation into the case.

Goga Khaindrava is going to address embassy and government of France for explanations.

“I have questions – if there were doubts regarding my personality, then why didn’t they ask questions then; besides, I was twice in France after that. As French party’s address was voiced, it’s a forgery as it is not a gendarmerie”, Khaindrava said.

Official site of Embassy of France to Georgia says: ‘We are surprised that the Georgian authorities have made ??public information under the secret instruction concerning a pending case in France, which confirmed the possibility of collision between Georgian opposition and criminal groups from Georgia working in France.

In any case, the French authorities have authorized such disclosure, which also is not in their power.

The pre-electoral context is sensitive, and furthermore degraded by the revelation of cases of torture in prisons and Georgian exploitation of a court case in progress may affect the proper conduct of elections.

France calls on Georgian authorities to make every effort to ensure that elections are conducted peacefully.‘

Confidential information, exchanged between countries, should not be made public, France’s Ambassador to Georgia Renaud Salins said .

‘France and Georgia are cooperating in the fight against crime, like all other countries do. In this regard information is usually exchanged between countries. Confidential information, exchanged between countries, should not become public’, Renaud Salins said.

According to him, he talked about the above-mentioned issue with Georgia’s Prime Minister Vano Merabishvili.

‘I had a long meeting with Mr Merabishvili. I explained all this to him’, he said.

According to him, France, like all EU countries, supports peacefully conducted elections in Georgia. ‘The Parliament should be elected by the people. We want peaceful processes’. The ambassador’s comment was released by Rustavi 2 TV.
