“NOBODY WILL DARE TO GIVE ORDERS TO CUSTOMS”
Minister Nodar KhaduriInterview with Finance

The Government, working in the co-habitation regime, manages to handle hidden or evident intrigues. Lately Finance Ministry became the opposition’s main target. Besides economic issues, the Nodar Khaduri’s office got involved in political games as well. Divulged detainment of Mayor’s office employees and dismantling of a minaret in Chela village of Adigeni municipality had a certain resonance. It is the National Movement that the Finance Minister Nodar Khaduri accuses of the politicization of the minaret
issue.
Q. – The dismantling of Minaret in Chela is still a topic for discussion. Why did your Office turn up to be in the epicenter of the events?
A. – We have to respect peoples’ points of view but when rules are infringed on the laws will be activated and this shouldn’t surprise anybody. The Nationals attempted to politicize this issue, giving it a religious tint. The minaret is already sealed and we are waiting for completion of legal procedures.
Q. – You are saying that the Nationals used this fact but I think you gave them a chance to use your mistake.
A. – They had only one goal – to strain situation in Georgia.
Q. – According to expert Mamuka Areshidze, a former high ranking official called the customs and after this the cargo was cleared without checking.
A. – Nobody will dare to give orders to the customs as to which cargo should be cleared and which – restricted.
Q. – Paata Zakareishvili, State Minister of Reintegration Issues, responded to Chairman of Adigeni District Council that the decision to erect the minaret was to be taken by local self-governance and not by his Ministry. If this is the case, why did you organize its dismantling?
A. – I won’t answer this question. Not because I don’t have my personal point of view but because at the moment you are speaking with the Finance Minister who has his obligations.
Q. – Previous authorities are sharply criticizing your Office. If we listen to them, we may think that the country is going to pieces.
A. – During the Nationals’ rule the country’s economy was heading to abyss. One-time senseless expenses made GEL 1 billion. I often meet foreigners but I can’t explain to them why entrepreneurs queued at notary offices at 2 o’clock a.m. to donate their property to the state…
Q. – Many people thought that after the elections a lot of investments would flow in to Georgia.
A. – This year, in the first quarter the volume of foreign investments was more than last year in the second, third or fourth quarters. In total about $480 million foreign investments were made in Georgia. Construction of 28 factories is coming to an end.
Q. – According to unconfirmed reports, the previous authorities appropriated about GEL 19 billion. How do you plan to restore justice in this case?
A. – Justice must be restored but restoration of rights of one person shouldn’t violate other person’s rights.
