Georgian Dream – Poor Billionaires

Georgian Dream – Poor Billionaires
My article was inspired by the billboard of the presidential candidate of Georgian Dream, hanging over the entrance to the round-shaped underground market on Station Square in Tbilisi. This is one of the cheapest markets in Tbilisi were refugees and gypsies have their “business” and offer goods to passerby people. These two, mutually exclusive images (bright-colored billboard and poor market) are a mini mock-up that describes almost the entire presidential campaign: it seems that Georgian Dream’s dream is simply to
have “people” that don’t demand too much but just want to have a DREAM. And Georgian Dream provides this dream without much promises and high demands (oops, some might want more). Georgian Dream is unveiled. It showed its face fully or is on a right way to show it fully.
The fact that leader of Georgian Dream is billionaire also leaves deep trace on the people who are with Georgian Dream and I suspect that its leader perceives nation from the perspective of a billionaire. Georgian kings were famous for one special trait: they knew wisdom of the “people” whom they used to keep inside; they tried to be closer to them. Erekle II lived in one room with a sword in his hand. Billionaire will never have sensitiveness to respect those who are poorer than he or she is because they will always place above everything the fact that they are lucky and clever to be billionaires. From this perspective, the only thing that a billionaire leader can promise the nation is to have the dream to be a millionaire and be as rich as he is (but it is all about dream only. In fact, no one wants others to be better and higher then he or she is). From this perspective we have a question: do we need billionaires in politics? It is not a European way of reasoning to have amorphous amount of money, which, in spite of the high aplomb of Georgian Dream leader, is not welcomed in Europe. Europe loves European ways of divided territories (look at the political map of Europe), European ways of having and spending money. Amorphous can be only Russia with its political map (you will never shape Russian border precisely and it is still not developed, as Russians think, because every day they crop territories of sovereign countries) and with its ways of earning and having money which they spend in a European way (because only Europe and modern western world promotes and produces things that are worth of buying). Meanwhile, there are still no clear signs of political, strategic orientation of Georgian Dream. It was declared several times that Georgian Dream is pro-western but some statements and actions of the leader of Georgian Dream don’t allow us to relax and not to think about this issue. The fact that PM finds words to blame Georgia as the side who began the war, the fact that Dalia Grybauskaite, the president of the country which is the member of European Union, says after meeting with Georgian PM that European Union will fight for Ukraine and Moldova as Georgia has not made decision which union to join, leaves questions. President of Georgia declared that PM removed inscription SUKHUMI from the airplane by which he travels and which used to be the president’s former plane. These are the facts that don’t let us to have clear idea how PM sees the future of Georgia: Is it west-bound? It is clear that issues such as integration in western political and military structures seemed to be the priority of only National Movement. Georgian Dream “ignores” all signs connected with it. I would like vital issues of Georgia to remain invulnerable not to be questioned by one or another party. They should remain the first priority. As for other things, they’re all about tastes and Georgian electorate will decide which color they like most - pink or grey.
