"Wrong approach"
Maia Panjikidze, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, says that the Grigory Karasin’s assessment of the Ditsi and Dvani developments is wrong. Maia Panjikidze is convinced that there would have been an appropriate answer from EU’s special representative in South Ossetia Philip Lefort to this statement from Russia’s Foreign Minister on this topic.
“I’m sure that Philip Lefort’s answer would be that this is Georgia’s territory and its territorial integrity and sovereignty must be inviolable. Hence, it’s an utterly wrong
approach, when Mr. Karasin says that we artificially aggravate the situation in the so called South Ossetia’s state border,” Panjikidze said.
Russia’s foreign Ministry informs that Tbilisi’s political speculations on Ditsi and Dvani developments are unacceptable to Russia. Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin spoke to the EU’s special representative in the South Caucasus Philp Lefort on this topic.
The parties discussed preparation for the Geneva discussions and perspectives of the joint statement about non-use of power. The ministry informs that Lefort highlighted the “provocative activities Tbilisi carries out near the South Ossetian border”. “Propaganda and hysteria over the legitimate activity of Tskhinvali’s government aiming at reinforcing the state border is under way. Obviously false information is disseminated as if the border is relocated towards Georgian territory. Georgian police officers directly interfere with organizing “the protests of the locals”, and media outlets are biased in covering them, like it happened regarding 17 September Ditsi developments. There has been noise regarding the Dvani developments. It’s clear that the scheduled events that were carried out by Tskhinvali in recent years, aiming at strengthening border regime with Russian border guards’ assistance are unacceptable to Georgia.
Tbilisi is not ready to recognize the inevitability of the result of the criminal military adventure of Mikheil Saakashvili in 2008, though political speculations on this topic are unacceptable. It will have a serious influence on the regional stability”, Russia’s Foreign Ministry informs.
Russia hopes EU special representative and EUMM observers will stop Tbilisi’s irresponsible steps in the bordering regions.
“Practical aspects, linked with the regime on Georgia-South Ossetian border must be peacefully discussed in the frameworks of Incident Prevention and response mechanism that has already proved its efficiency,” Russia’s Foreign Ministry states.
