HAS COHABITATION ENDED?
For the first time in our history, in order to change the chief administrator of the country we didn’t need a velvet revolution or a coup. Cohabitation that was taken by majority of our compatriots as the biggest hindrance to restore justice has ended. 9 years of Saakashvili’s presidency have expired as well. According to expert Kakhi Kakhishvili, Georgian people deserve congratulations.
Kakhi Kakhishvili: - Cohabitation has significantly hampered the process of restoration of justice in the country. The ‘Georgian
Dream’ was impelled (due to the West’s pressure) to cooperate with the political force, while regarding the criminal activity of its members, people have questions.
Q. – Will cohabitation end actually? Will it be precondition of expediting restoration of justice?
A. – Let’s not forget that ‘National Movement’ still has control over Tbilisi Mayor’s Office and big part of local self-governance. ‘Nationals’ have 40% representation in the Legislative organ. Thus the leading power won’t be able to avoid cooperation with them, even in consultations. The only way out is early parliamentary elections. But this needs concrete reason and argumentation. Let’s see whether the Prosecutor’s Office, after the end of cohabitation, starts investigation of former or present high-ranks’ cases. But I’d say here that starting of investigation is one thing, collection of evidences – another and presenting them to the court – still another thing.
Q. – Family members of former Prime Minister Zurab Zhvania assert that after detecting the case many former high-ranks will be kept responsible, first of all – Saakashvili.
A. – The case may be brought to court but the process may fail in Kublashvili’s court and it will be a big scandal. The Prosecutor’s Office should not send the evidences to court until they are sure that materials are trustworthy, because verdict of not guilty will only serve to reanimate the ‘National Movement’.
Q. – Georgia will shortly have a new Premier. Several sources of authorities confirm that Ivanishvili will support Davit Sergeenko on the post of head of the Government.
A. – Sergeenko is the author of project of general insurance. It’s easier to assign him as the Premier because Healthcare Ministry doesn’t belong to top brass and it will be easier to find his substitute.
Q. – At the end of cohabitation Saakashvili amazed us once more. To say the truth, I searched the Internet but could not find an analog when a President of any country held a live briefing with regard to secret defense constructions.
A. – Having realized that he is bidding farewell to his post and luxury, Saakashvili is behaving himself strangely. He spoke about secret issues more than once. For instance, in one of the interviews he disclosed that during August 2008 war the Americans were considering explosion of the Roki tunnel and that American ships didn’t bring to Georgia only water. Saakashvili is creating problems and this is confirmed by the fact that he took journalists to secret facilities. In case somebody did the same during Saakashil’s rule, he would be tried for espionage. He will continue staging spectacles like the one when he followed recently-released-from-prison Chakhalian, calling him ‘coward separatist’. The ‘Nationals’ have money as well as international support and they master PR technologies quite well. Consequently, in case their crimes aren’t revealed their reanimation may successfully be translated into reality.
