Peril not only for Ukraine…
“Events in Ukraine is important not only for Ukraine and Georgia but for the whole region”

Three more people have reportedly died during clashes between police and protesters in the Ukrainian capital Kiev. Medical staff in the city told Sky News that the two died after being shot, and one after falling from a height. The first casualty got killed by a sniper. The shooting victim was identified as Sergey Nigoyan from Dnepropetrovsk. In addition, according to the Ukrainian media, one
more 21-year-old activist died at hospital.
Berkut officers are severely beating every protester, Espresso TV reports. According to the network, the police are also defying the Red Cross and are beating doctors who are trying to help the injured. Berkut are beating protesters with their feet and batons. Dozens of brutally beaten people are laying unconscious on Grushevsky Street.
The High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice President of the Commission, Catherine Ashton, has condemned the violence in Kyiv.
“I strongly condemn the violent escalation of events in Kyiv overnight leading to casualties. The reported deaths of several protesters is a source of extreme worry and my sympathy goes to all those affected,” she says in her statement.
Catherine Ashton called on everyone involved to ensure restraint. ”The use of force and resorting to violence is not an answer to the political crisis. All acts of violence must come to an immediate end and be swiftly investigated. Those responsible will have to be held to account.
The Ukrainian citizens’ right of assembly, freedom of expression and media must be fully respected and protected. I am deeply concerned about attacks on journalists and about reports of missing persons.
I call on the government and the opposition to engage in a genuine dialogue at the highest level. The solution needs to meet the aspirations of the Ukrainian people,” Ashton says.
NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen has made a comment on the Ukrainian developments. “I am deeply concerned over the dramatic developments of Ukraine and information about the deaths of several people. I categorically condemn the violence, which can never be a response to a political crisis,” Rasmussen says. He called on both parties for a dialogue and restraint in order to avoid escalation. The Parliament Speaker of Georgia Davit Usupashvili hopes the Ukrainian government and the opposition will be able to avoid the worst. Usupashvili said at a bureau session that peaceful development of events in Ukraine is important not only for Ukraine and Georgia but for the whole region.
“In the last few days in Ukraine, unfortunately, the situation has tensed. There are victims. This, of course, causes our common concern. We, the parliament’s political parties, have clearly expressed our support for the Ukrainian people. Again, I wish and I hope that politicians, the leaders of the government and the opposition will be able to avoid the worst,” he noted.
A rally in support of Ukrainian people was held in capital of Georgia.
