Foreign media about Obama-Gharibashvili meeting
US President Barack Obama joined the meeting between Joseph Biden and the Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Gharibashvili.
He welcomed and shook hands with the Georgian delegation members.
The main topics of their meeting were strategic partnership, Georgia's European and Euro Atlantic perspective, also the reforms implemented by Georgia’s government.
World media reports about the aforementioned meeting.
The Hill website informs that ‘President Obama and Vice President Biden met Monday with Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili in a move that could
disrupt already fragile relations with Moscow amid the constitutional crisis gripping Ukraine.
Obama spoke with Garibashvili for just around 20 minutes, and applauded Georgia on its first successful democratic transfer of power, the White House said.
"Our support for Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine is not some zero-sum game with Russia," a senior administration official said.’
According to the Wall Street Journal, “President Barack Obama met for about 20 minutes Monday with Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, an unexpected discussion that came against the backdrop of upheaval in Ukraine, senior administration officials said.
Messrs. Obama and Garibashvili, who was at the White House for a meeting with Vice President Joe Biden, talked about Ukraine and Georgia’s recent transition of power, discussing how the two countries can increase trade ties, the officials said.
Mr. Obama’s meeting served to highlight the U.S. view of Georgia as an example of a onetime Soviet republic that has had a successful democratic transition and is forging ties to the West.”
The US Embassy informs, that “President Obama joined Vice President Biden’s meeting with Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili. The President and Vice President both congratulated the Prime Minister for Georgia’s success in completing the country’s first peaceful, democratic transition of power, and urged the Prime Minister to continue working with all of Georgia’s leaders and with civil society to advance the rule of law and to consolidate Georgia’s significant democratic achievements. They also thanked Georgia for being a valued friend and reliable partner in supporting our most challenging regional and global priorities. In doing so, the President expressed the United States’ deep appreciation for Georgia’s significant contributions to the NATO mission in Afghanistan and honored the sacrifices made by Georgian soldiers and their families. The President and Prime Minister further discussed opportunities for strengthening U.S.-Georgia strategic cooperation, including on increasing trade and investment ties between our two economies. The President and Vice President also reaffirmed the United States’ strong support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders. They also assured the Prime Minister that the Georgian people had the United States’ unwavering support as they pursue their Euro-Atlantic aspirations and pledged continued U.S. assistance to help the new Georgian government as it pursues political, economic, and defense reforms.”
