First bilateral meeting between Margvelashvili and Rasmussen in Wales

Within the framework of the NATO Summit in Wales, Georgia’s President Giorgi Margvelashvili conducted his first bilateral meeting with Anders Fogh Rasmussen, Secretary General of NATO.
Meeting between President and Secretary General happened before the summit was officially declared open; the two mainly discussed the importance of the summit. They emphasized the necessity and summit’s growing responsibility of ensuring safety in the region due to the Ukrainian crisis.
Margvelashvili thanked Rasmussen for firm support for Georgia’s course towards integration into
NATO and declared that the Alliance’s gauging of Georgia’s progress is important for the country.
He also expressed hope that the upcoming summit will give Georgia a stimulus towards becoming a NATO member.
