Federica Mogherini, High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice-President of the European Commission
, talked about issues of gender equality at the International High Level Conference "Achieving Gender Equality".
In this context, Federica Mogherini emphasized that there is no sustainable development if there is no gender equality.
"A lot of women are now in this room, but, also here are a lot of men. We have gathered here because we believe in gender equality and we believe we will change
the situation.
Gender equality is not only a moral obligation or social status. Granting women and men same rights enriches our society and makes is safer. It is an issue of development. Strong woman brings many benefits to the society. It is easier to overcome economic and social barriers when women are strong and they are recognized as equal citizens in the community. This is part of the sustainability of our society.
To do this, the EU is working on women's and girls' rights", said the EU High Representative for Foreign and Security Policy.
