30 January, 2018
In some NATO member states there is a view that Georgia’s NATO membership may irritate Russia, though Georgia is a sovereign state and it should not be dependent on other country, - Ian Kelly, US Ambassador to Georgia, told reporters while commenting about the Heritage Foundation report saying that Georgia’s membership lies in the interest of NATO and EU.

“The United States strongly supports Georgia's Euro-Atlantic integration, is a strong supporter of Georgia’s NATO membership. In some NATO member states
there is a view that Georgia's membership may cause irritation of Russia.

But Georgia is a sovereign and independent nation. You make your own decisions about what you want and you are not dependent on other countries. Therefore, we support the aspirations of Georgia’s sovereign decision ", - he said.
