Georgia and the European Union will move to new, higher level of bilateral cooperation
The President of Georgia Giorgi Margvelashvili and the President of the European Commission, Mr. Jean-Claude Juncker have agreed on advancing the EU-Georgia bilateral relations and establishing a new format for cooperation that involves transition to the highest level of sectoral cooperation.

Jean-Claude Juncker.

The head of the presidential administration said that the sides discussed Georgia-EU relations, visa liberalization issues and association agreement. At the meeting, special emphasis was put on the recent aggressive actions of the occupation regime.

The sides touched upon the current situation in the occupied territories, including the death of Georgian citizen Archil Tatunashvili in the hands of occupation regime in Georgia’s breakaway region of Tskhinvali (so called South Ossetia) and the illegal detention of two Georgian citizens.

According to Giorgi Abashishvili, President Junker declares full support towards Georgia.

"Georgia and the EU will move to new, higher level of bilateral cooperation. This format includes the creation of the highest level of sectoral cooperation between Georgia and the EU. The Presidents discussed the topical issues between Georgia and the EU. At the same time, President Margvelashvili gave President Junker insight into the activities carried out by the Georgian Government for prevention of certain problems that have arisen in visa-free travel issue.

President Juncker fully supports Georgia's efforts and actions in the process of visa liberalization; he expressed readiness for moving to a new format of cooperation", -
said Giorgi Abashishvili .The sides have also discussed the visa liberalization process. According to President Margvelashvili, Georgian Government is ready to take all the necessary steps, in cooperation with the EU partners, to prevent complications in the process of visa-free travel.

At the end of the meeting, President Margvelashvili has invited Mr. Juncker to Georgia to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the First Georgian Republic on May 26.
