US Ambassador to Georgia condemns opening of polling stations in Tskhinvali for Russia's elections
Vladimir Putin will lead Russia for another six years, after winning Sunday's presidential election. Putin, who has ruled the country as either president or prime minister since 1999, received more than 76% of the vote, official results show. It is noteworthy that 13 polling stations were opened in Tskhinvali (Georgia’s occupied region of South Ossetia) for the Russia's presidential elections. Six polling stations were opened in Tskhinvali and the rest - in other districts of occupied South Ossetia. In relation
to arranging polling stations on Georgia’s territory, US Ambassador to Georgia Ian Kelly made a statement.

“Carrying out any action in Abkhazia and South Ossetia without a consent of Georgia is inadmissible”, Georgia's ambassador to Georgia, Ian Kelly, told reporters when commenting about the opening of the polling stations for the Russian presidential elections in the occupied regions of Georgia.

"We, of course, do not recognize Russia's power in South Ossetia and Abkhazia, because these regions are the part of Georgia and consequently, carrying out any action there without a consent of Georgia is unacceptable," - the US Ambassador said.

"Last week I had meetings with the Chairman of Parliament and the representatives of pro-Western opposition parties. They all agree that there is a huge problem of responsibility and accountability, the facts of human rights violation in the conflict regions. We have offered chairman of Parliament the Parliament of Georgia to communicate with relevant representatives of the US for sharing the experience, which exists related to regulation of these issues," Ian Kelly said.
