Georgian soldier's death in occupied Tskhinvali Region discussed as the main theme at Geneva talks
Representatives of Tskhinvali and Russia had nothing to say about Archil Tatunashvili, - Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Davit Dondua said in Geneva, where the 43rd round of the negotiations was held.

The Deputy Minister said that the main topic of the meeting was the murder of Georgian soldier Archil Tatunashvili in Georgia's occupied Tskhinvali Region, so-called South Ossetia.

the Geneva International Discussions was held on 27-28 March

"Of course, as we had planned, we made the main focus on Archil Tatunashvili's case. However, unfortunately, we could not hear anything important from Russia or from Tskhinvali. Representatives of Tskhinvali read the same statement, absolutely absurd, which did not contain anything new," Dondua said.

According to the Deputy Minister, the Russian Federation should be politically held accountable for the tragic event.

"We claim that the person was murdered. Investigation is now underway and no one should hinder it. The fact is that the person was tortured and now it should be investigated who should be brought before the court. The Russian Federation, as a country exercising effective control of the occupied territories, should be politically held accountable. The addressee of our statements was Russia. However, as I told you neither Russia nor Tskhinvali representatives said anything new," Dondua said.

Deputy Foreign Minister accuses Russia of avoiding constructive reasoning on non-use of force

"Russia has avoided constructive reasoning on the non-use of force. It questioned the fundamental principles of the Geneva talks, or the Ceasefire Agreement, signed on August 12, 2008, through the EU mediation.

After all this, it was difficult to consider the issue of a joint statement. So we could not archive anything at this round, "said David Dondua.

According to Georgia's FM, the format of the negotiations fully responds to the challenges

According to him, the issue of reforming the Geneva talks has not been discussed and none of the participants has raised this issue during the session.

As David Dondua told journalists, the format of the negotiations fully responds to the challenges and needs that exist in Georgia and the occupied territories of Georgia.

The issue of reforming the Geneva talks has not been discussed

"There was no talk about reforming the Geneva format at all. The Geneva talks do not need reforming. The Geneva format is a unique and good tool to respond to the tasks based on international law documents, legal compulsory documents. The task is to respond to the challenges, security and humanitarian tasks that have emerged on the occupied territories of Georgia since 2008,"- said Davit Dondua.

Reports have been spread, according to which, the Georgian side was going to make a concession and change the Geneva format so that Russia would enjoy the status of a negotiator and not a respondent.

As a reminder, on February 22, the occupation regime detained three Georgian citizens - Archil Tatunashvili, Levan Kutashvili and Ioseb Pavliashvili in Akhalgori. On February 23, it was reported that Archil Tatunashvili died in unclear circumstances. The de facto authorities of the occupied South Ossetia said that Tatunashvili fell down the stairs when resisting law enforcers. Two citizens of Georgia, who were detained together with Archil Tatunashvili in Akhalgori, have left the occupied territory of Georgia. Levan Qutashvili and Ioseb Pavliashvili are already on the territory under the control of Georgia's central government.
