“TBC Bank” co-founder Mamuka Khazarade says he received threatening letter from Interior Minister
“I received a threatening letter from a high-ranking peroson before the second round of the presidential elections, saying they would destroy our reputation at the local and international arenas, - "TBC Bank's” co-founder Mamuka Khazaradze said during his speech at the sitting of the Finance and Budget Committee in Parliament on the 4th of March.

“The letter was sent by Interior Minister Giorgi Gakharia. I do not want to run between journalists and media outlets with letters in my hands. It
was a threatening letter, asking to do something, but we have not done and will never do it,” Mamuka Khazaradze said.

Mamuka Khazaradze says he has provided relevant agencies with information about the threatening letter received from Interior Minister Giorgi Gakharia.

“I said it in my transcript of interrogation, but legal action has not been launched. The judge and the three prosecutors even did not ask any question. I told them that we are attacked, threatened, and it is recorded, but no one was interested in it. On the contrary, they made this awful statement on January 9 that inflicted 90 million worth damage to our investors. Therefore, when you ask: If I informed the Prosecutor's Office, I am replying: Yes. I did it like a law-abiding citizen. You can see the transcript of interrogation, "said Khazaradze.

The Georgian Chief Prosecutor’s Office stated a month ago that the Financial Monitoring Service launched a study of financial assets of TBC Bank, its client companies, bank administrators and particular shareholders in May 2018, which revealed that there were “signs of money laundering”.

The National Bank of Georgia (NBG)demanded the withdrawal of the head of the supervisory council of the Georgian leading TBC bank Mamuka Khazaradze and the deputy head of the council Badri Japaridze from the council due to the case. Mamuka Khazaradze claimed that it was a deliberate campaign against him related to the construction of Anaklia deep sea port.

It’s a lie that someone dismissed me. It was my decision, and I left the post to save the bank from destruction,“ said Khazaradze Mamuka at the sitting of the Finance and Budget Committee in Parliament.

“4 different agencies entered [the bank], including the money monitoring service, the Prosecutor's Office, the Revenue Service, and the National Bank. Simultaneously, they started to take the documentation on this issue from us.

I would like to tell you that the banking sector does not have the obligation to keep the documentation that is more than 6 years. We are obliged to destroy this documentation. Although our entire activities are based on transparency, although we were legally entitled to destroy the documents, when we saw that there was such an attack, that he has not had during the 27 years, we had nothing to hide and we gave all the documents of the last 10-12 years, kept in the archive,” said Khazaradze.

Mamuka Khazaradze said the letter received from the National Bank was “blackmailing.”

“I was surprised. In English, it is called blackmail. They tell me: “you must resign.” It is clear that they could not resist the so-called version of the Prosecutor’s Office. Then I told them: “I prefer to be dismissed because it is discrimination, it is a violation of rights and disproportionate measures towards us. After that we received five letters and the shares of the bank fell to the lowest level, "said Khazaradze.
