Road to Davit Gareji monastery opened
The road to the Davit Gareji monastery, which was closed by the Azeri border guards, has been opened. As archimandrite Kiril told InterPressNews, pilgrims, local residents and tourists can freely move to the monastery at this time.

The Azeri border guards had closed the road and had not been letting clergymen in the monastery for three days.

Georgian Foreign Minister Davit Zalkaliani said at the end of the day yesterday that the Azerbaijani authorities decided to open the closed areas.

Foreign Minister comments on the incident

The Azerbaijani authorities have decided to open the points that were closed, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia Davit Zalkaliani said while commenting on the closure of the road to Davit Gareji Monastery.

The Minister said Tbilisi “reacted immediately” after receiving the information.

“As soon as we were informed, we communicated with our Azeri colleagues. I had a conversation with my counterpart, the MIA [Interior Ministry] has communicated with its colleagues. The situation is settled, the Azerbaijani authorities decided to open the points that were closed," said FM Zalkaliani.

According to him, the Georgian side will work on the delimitation of the Georgia-Azerbaijan border in the future. The Minister explained that the process was delayed due to the changes in the commissions. FM Zalkaliani hopes that the process will start in the near future and the issue will be solved through negotiations between the two sides.
