PM Mamuka Bakhtadze met with US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo
Prime Minister of Georgia Mamuka Bakhtadze met with US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo on the 11th of June. After the talks, Mamuka Bakhtadze and Michael Pompeo made statements for the media.

We want more investments, more trade, and more of the US in Georgia, Prime Minister of Georgia Mamuka Bakhtadze said during his remarks at a joint briefing with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

The Prime Minister underlined that there are good opportunities for doing business in
Georgia.

“Today Georgia is a stable democracy with strong state institutions, with a growing economy, and vibrant civil society. Georgia is widely considered as a top reformer country in the region and beyond. We strive to become the gold standard in ease of doing business and legal transparency. Investment flows to an opportunity where barriers are the lowest,” the Prime Minister said.

The Prime Minister underlined the importance of Georgian-US economic cooperation and noted that Georgia is a unique gateway, where American companies can quickly reach the European and Asian growth markets.

“Economic cooperation continues to grow between Georgia and the US. We are proud that nearly 200 hundred American companies are now operating in Georgia.

During today's conversation, I called on Georgia to improve the judicial system, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said on Tuesday at a joint briefing after a meeting with Georgia’s Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze.

“During today's conversation, I called on Georgia to improve the judicial system and to prove that its democracy involves free and fair elections. At the meeting with the Prime Minister, I had the chance to discuss the responsibility of the parliament and to be convinced the state agencies work properly and fulfill lawfully what they promised their citizens,” Mike Pompeo said.

"Finally, I communicated our hope that Georgia completes the port project. The project and others will enhance Georgia’s relationship with free economies and prevent Georgia from falling prey to Russian or Chinese economic influence. Those pretended friends do not have Georgia’s best interests at heart," said Mike Pompeo.

Georgia-US Strategic Partnership Conference

According to the government’s administration, on June 12, the Prime Minister opened a Georgia-US Strategic Partnership Conference, which was held at the US Institute of Peace.

As Georgian Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze told Georgian journalists in Washington, the joint declaration signed on the 10th anniversary of US-Georgia strategic partnership is a document of historic importance, - the PM's press service reports.

According to the Head of Government, the document evaluates the joint success achieved in the past ten years of strategic partnership and defines a political vision to guide the strategic partnership in the years to come.

Georgia’s efforts give me great confidence to speak for President Trump, and all of the United States Government, when I say that you will continue to have the support of the United States as you seek to become a NATO member, - US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said at a joint briefing held together with Prime Minister of Georgia Mamuka Bakhtadze in Washington.

Mike Pompeo spoke about the declaration signed at the 10th anniversary of the Charter on Strategic Partnership.

“The declaration outlines the future direction of our relationship – one we hope will continue to be defined by a close friendship and a broad series of shared commitments.

Georgia’s leadership role as an aspiring NATO ally is just one reason we’re so enthusiastic to work together. President Trump has called for all nations to do more to resolve global challenges, and Georgia is doing just that in the fight against terrorism in Afghanistan.

Even as we speak, 32 brave Georgian soldiers know that they have given their all while serving alongside Americans there, and 870 Georgian soldiers serve in support of NATO’s mission there.

Beyond Afghanistan, Georgia is working to make sure its forces can integrate seamlessly with NATO’s. Further progress on that score will serve our strategic purposes as well, as the Alliance continues its cooperation with Georgia in the Black Sea region”, Mike Pompeo said.
