“After conducting investigative actions, obtaining investigative evidence and analyzing the testimonies of dozens of
witnesses, the investigative body came to the conclusion that on the night of 20th of June, 2019, individuals were planned to violently overthrow the state government through the uprising. it was established that the first phase of this plan was to attack and occupy the Parliament of Georgia, which would be followed by further criminal actions all over the country. The above was neutralized by the law enforcement agencies of Georgia”, the prosecutor said.

According to him, the investigation is ongoing under Article 225 and Article 315 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which pertain to uprising aimed at overthrowing the state authorities. June 20-21 events

Police used water cannon, teargas, rubber bullets without warning against thousands of nonviolent protesters outside the Georgian Parliament on June 20, 2019. Angered by the presence of a delegation from the Russian Duma in the parliament building in the morning, several thousand opposition and civic activists gathered in front of the building at 7 p.m. on June 20. The delegation was part of the Inter-parliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy (IAO) held in Georgia. The tensions increased around 10 p.m. when some protesters broke through the first police cordon separating protesters from the parliament building.
