Georgian doctor Vazha Gaprindashvili sentenced to 1 year and 9 months in prison in occupied Tskhinvali

Tskhinvali occupation regime sentenced illegally detained Georgian doctor Vazha Gaprindashvili to 1 year and 9 months of imprisonment, Davit Asatiani, the lawyer of the Georgian Bar Association, wrote on his Facebook page. The State Security Service, based on information received through the EUMM's hotline, confirms the prolongation of illegal imprisonment of Georgian citizen Vazha Gaprindashvili in the occupied Tskhinvali region, State Security Service said in a statement on Friday.

The illegal imprisonment of Vazha Gaprindashvili is the part of the illegal
policy and the occupation regime is fully responsible for it. This decision once again demonstrates fundamental human rights violations in the occupied region and fragile security situation on the ground.

The State Security Service will continue its efforts to ensure the release of Vazha Gaprindashvili and to inform international organizations and partner countries of Georgia about this illegal decision, "the statement read.

Georgian doctor Vazha Gaprindashvili was arrested and charged with “illegally crossing the border” on December 9. So-called court sentenced him to two-month pretrial custody on December 13.
