‘IF SAAKASHVILI COMES AGAIN IN 2013, HE WON’T LEAVE FOR A LONG TIME’

Interview with Levan Berdzenishvili, leader of Republican Party

‘In the ‘National Movement’ there is a group of people who think soberly and they meditate about staying in politics without President Saakashvili.

For the time being they are in the shadow but Saakashvili’s activity indicates that he sees the threat and is disturbed’, said one of the le

aders of Republican Party Levan Berdzenishvili:

L.B. – Saakashvili knows what the West is thinking about his political future but he isn’t that kind of a man who makes decisions according to wishes of the West or America. In case of need he’ll even change the name of the party. If he isn’t the President, he will be the Premier; if he isn’t the Premier he’ll try to make amendments to the Constitution and on request of the Georgian people become the President for the third term.
Saakashvili needs colossal results at 2012 elections but he faces a problem – securing of colossal victory needs big money but this money isn’t coming from outside and it is to be found inside. But if you put your hand into a citizen’s pocket he may give the money to you but not his vote. This gave rise to a problem.
If Saakashvili had political wisdom he wouldn’t attempt to smash the opposition.
Q. – You declare that Giga Bokeria, Secretary of the Security Council is undermining Saakashvili…
L.B. – According to WikiLeaks it’s obvious that for a long time there is controversy inside the ‘National Movement’. I don’t know what will this will result in but the opposition shouldn’t think either that their activity isn’t necessary as it’s Bokeria who will undermine him. Mikheil Saakashvili, Bokeria and Interior Minister Vano Merabishvili are heads of one and same dragon. By the way, I know that it was Bokeria who went against the election compromises, not Merabishvili. It isn’t excluded that the steps taken by the leaders acting in collusion coincide with the interests of Georgia. And this interest is that Saakashvili doesn’t become the Premier.
Q. – The political ‘eight’ shrank down  to ‘six’ and now there is a chance to be transformed into ‘five’.
L.B. – The authorities have worked to turn the ‘eight’ into ‘six’. Leaving of the ‘eight’ wasn’t the best decision in the history of the ‘New Rightists’. But it isn’t their first mistake either. When they see the election results they will know it then.
Q. – Is the ‘Georgians’ March’ of the Forum the work of the authorities?
L.B. – I don’t think so. The ‘Forum’ is saying that the ‘six’ won’t disintegrate but they add that there will be no new block either.
