Obama Saakashvili Meeting on 30 January

“Meeting of U.S. and Georgia’s Presidents by the end of the month will deepen relations between the countries and give it more specifics”,  InterPressNews was told by the Director of the American Studies Centre Vasil Katcharava.
He said that as the U.S. is a world leading country, it is also a strategic partner of Georgia, the Georgian president’s visit to Washington is a very important event.

relations between the countries, security issues in the region and the issue of deepening relations between NATO and Georgia before the Chicago summit. He says that in the current situation, when punishing plans still remain in Russian Schedule due to Georgia’s aspiration to NATO membership, Obama-Saakashvili meeting will be very important.
Katcharava says that the planned meeting is significant as it’s the 20th anniversary of U.S. –Georgian diplomatic relations. He says that Georgian-U.S. relations are developing so fast that it may be hard to find many cases of such rates of becoming close in the history of diplomacy.

“We must not forget that after 2008 Russian-Georgian war, Georgia survived as a state and it is first of all the result of special relations of Georgia with U.S. and not only political but financial support of the U.S. to Georgia”, Vasil Katcharava said.

He says that by initiative of the American studies Centre, on 17 May, special scientific conference will be devoted to the 20th anniversary of Georgian-U.S. diplomatic relations. Georgian scientist will actively participate in the conference.
U.S. President Barack Obama will meet with the President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili on 30 January in the Oval Office of the White House, official web page of the White House informs.

Expert in international issues Levan Tsutskiridze salutes the Obama-Saakashvili meeting and declares that attitude of U.S. and other countries to Georgia is determined by the situation in Georgia regarding democracy.
“U.S. and other traditional allies’ policy towards Georgia will largely depend on the situation in the country regarding democratic development”, Levan Tsutskiridze told InterPressNews.
He says that it’s important that U.S. Georgian long-term cooperation, strategy and security issues, democratic reforms and future are discussed in the context of elections which are of historical importance to us.
