MIA Department to Carry out CSD and SOD Functions
23 October, 2012

"Constitutional security and special operative Departments will be abolished and other structures of MIA will carry out their functions", candidate for Minister of Internal Affairs Irakli Gharibashvili said during the joint session of legal issues and human rights committees of parliament.
Gharibashvili explains that the plan of the reform is the following: Anti terrorist centre, State security department and counter reconnaissance will carry out the CSD function. Criminal police and counter reconnaissance department will carryout out the functions of SOD.

Irakli Gharibashvili says that he thinks this plan is the opportunity to depoliticize the MIA.
He said it is not planned yet to separate Security Service from MIA and form as a separate department, though in a long term perspective Georgian Dream coalition will discuss the issue.
Gharibashvili says reforms and changes will not cause a staff drain.
The governmental program of Georgian Dream says that state security service will be separated from the system of Ministry of Internal Affairs and united, independent security service will be set up with new content and structure.
