MP Giorgi Karbelashvili detained for several hours - Investigation into the case launched
10 August, 2015
MP Giorgi Karbelashvili has spent a few hours at a police station. According to Rustavi 2 TV, an incident took place in the village of Kvishkheti at 1:00 am. The MP was driving a car when he was stopped by the police and subsequently arrested.

Initially he was taken to the Osiauri police station. Relatives were demanding to meet with him all night long but were not allowed to, which has provoked clashes between them and the police.

Reports say Karbelashvili
was then taken from Osiauri to Gori, though later he was released.

Investigation into the Kvishkheti incident, during which a Member of Parliament and his companion were arrested, has been launched under the first part of Article 353 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, - as the Ministry of Internal Affairs informed InterpressNews.

According to the agency, police officers stopped a car driven by MP Giorgi Karbelashvili in the village of Kvishkheti for a traffic violation.

“Karbelashvili was accompanied by one man. The two men verbally and physical resisted the officers. Both of them were inebriated. Karbelashvili’s companion was arrested for resisting arrest, while the MP himself is at large due to his parliamentary immunity,” said the Interior Ministry's press service.
