Georgia’s First Lady’s countryside life and her first New Year with her baby son
13 January, 2016
In Dusheti, where the President and his family live now, there is completely different rhythm of life, comparing to the capital. The edge of the forest, open air and amazing landscapes create some kind of mysticism that makes you see your difficult everyday life in a different prism: when a young deer is running in your yard and beautiful flowers surround you, there is no other way. ‘Big housewife’ of the little Dusheti house agreed to answer a few questions.

- Let us begin with 2015. What was the last year like for you and for the country?

- I will stress the most important event for our family – the birth of our son. Last year, he was the main object of my attention. He’s still very young and needs our warmth and care. As for our country, it develops in a way we all have chosen. I mean the western values. I think, last year we made quite a few very important steps in that direction.

- How did you celebrate the New Year?

- As in any other family, we also had several traditional Georgian dishes. In the evening, we lit the fireplace and met our first New Year together with Temo.

- What does being the First Lady mean for you? I think, when you are an artistic person, it’s difficult to live with certain protocol.

- At first, it was really very hard to get used to it. But very soon, I saw some positive aspects in that. I discovered that it is a lot easier to make good deeds while being First Lady.

- What is your day like?

- Each day is different. The only thing that does not change is taking care of Temo.

- When deciding family matters, how often do you coordinate your decisions with the President? Or do you decide everything by yourself?

- Almost always we discuss every issue together. This process is always very interesting and, as a rule, our views coincide. Of course there are moments when I make decisions alone.

- How do you spend your free time? What is the best way to relax?

- Our house is very close to the forest. For me, the best way to rest is walking among trees and in the fields.

- What are your plans for 2016? What public activities can we expect from the First Lady?

- My interests remain unchanged. I want to defend the rights of children and disabled people. Also I want to protect women, environment and animals. These questions have always been my main priorities, but when I became the First Lady, that gave me the opportunity to receive more information, contact different people who have similar interests and to share their experience. I think I will be able to work more steadily if I have such people beside me. I also plan to advocate several other problems. We have a big responsibility towards our country and I am sure that together we will manage to build a strong and beautiful state where people will take care of each other and everyone will find their place.
