22 March, 2016
To our surprise and excitement more and more females in Georgia pursue professions that in the past were considered to be masculine and dangerous. Today we would like to tell you yet another interesting story of a courageous girl from Svaneti (highland region of Georgia) with high responsibility and difficult job.

23-year-old Nata Japaridze is working as a mountain rescuer at Tetnuldi Ski Resort in Svaneti. She is the only female mountain rescuer in Georgia. Her duty is to safely
transfer injured tourists to the emergency brigade from Tetnuldi resort as well as control and regulate the ski tracks.

Nata is the tourism specialist by profession and on the current position she was selected through the competition held by the Mountain Resorts Development Company.geotv.ge

“I studied tourism at the university in Tbilisi. I worked as a guide during my student years and then at the Ministry of Environment Protection. When Tetnuldi Ski Resort was opened in February, I was selected among top six rescuers. The fact that I am the first and only female mountain rescuer in Georgia makes me very happy. Since I am from Mestia, the center of Svaneti, I decided to be in the mountains where my heart belongs and help the people. My grandfather Givi Japaridze was my instructor and he always told me why I could not do what the boys could do, that is why I was always eager to do what the males did. Even today, many people don’t believe that I am a rescuer and don’t take it seriously, since I don’t have muscles. At job I am surrounded with boys and I have very friendly relations with them. I feel very comfortable while working with my male colleagues, since I have more male friends than girls”, - says the young rescuer.

As a reminder, the Tetnuldi Resort was officially opened on February 6, 2016. At present one ropeway operates at the resort, yet it is planned to further expand 7-kilometer-long track to 9.5 kilometers, that will finally result in the longest ski run in the South Caucasus. According to the specialists the resort will be able to accommodate 6806 visitors simultaneously while the ski run will serve 4100 skiers.

As for Tetnuldi Mount, it is the 5th highest and one of the most famous peaks in the central part of the Greater Caucasus Mountain Range, located in the Svaneti region of Georgia. Tetnuldi reaches 4,858 meters and is thought to be 10th highest peak of the Caucasus.
