National record set! – Georgian musician plays the piano for 25 hours
30 March, 2016
A very interesting record was set in Georgia - Tamar Babilua played the piano for 25 hours, only taking 15-minute breaks every hour. The process was supervised by Georgian Records Federation.

The experiment began at the Georgian National Library, on
March 28, at noon and ended on March 29, at 13:00. Tamar Babilua planned to perform 500 compositions, but in the end, she played almost twice as more – her own songs, as well as the compositions by other artists.

Tamar recalls that in 2015, she saw a video on YouTube, where Bence Peter was setting a Guinness World Record. After that she set a goal to play piano for 25 hours.

At that time, the record was 22 hours and 10 minutes. However, last year she was unable to do it because of her health condition – she was diagnosed with the stage 3 cancer. After that, the record was bettered by an Indian man, who played for 127 hours and 8 minutes and she says she wanted to beat that record too but her doctors dissuaded her, saying it was too risky. That is why she decided to concentrate on bettering the domestic record.

Tamar Babilua has been playing the piano from the age of three. She is the winner of numerous international competitions. She also writes her own music, including soundtracks for several films. She also collaborates with various performers, musical groups and recording studios. Since 2014 she is the main keyboardist and vocalist for the band called Niutone.

The domestic record she has bettered was 24 hours and the international record is 127 hours and 8 minutes.
