Abkhazian wedding featured on National Geographic
15 June, 2016
National Geographic Instagram page publishes yet another photo depicting Georgia. This time it is the breakaway region of Abkhazia. This is how the image shot by Diana Markosian is described: "A traditional Abkhaz wedding in the village of Gupi, Abkhazia. The Black Sea coastal region is a de facto independent, partially recognized state situated between Russia and Georgia. It broke away from Georgia after a civil war more than 20 years ago and declared formal independence in 2008. Since then,
it has relied militarily and financially on Russia."
