Hungarian tourist killed by avalanche in Kazbegi
Mountain Resorts Development Company of Georgia’s Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development urges tourists to abide to the rules set by the company’s administration in all parts of the country. The company has spread the announcement following today’s tragic incident in Kazbegi region, where a Hungarian tourist was swept away and killed by avalanche.

‘As the Mountainous Resorts Development Company of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development was informed, a Hungarian tourist died in Kazbegi region today, after he violated the safety markings and crossed the line, entering 5 kilometers inside the prohibited area. The Mountainous Resorts Development Company regrets the incident and offers its condolences to the family of the deceased’.

The abovementioned company covers the mountainous resorts of Gudauri, Bakuriani, Svaneti and Goderdzi.

‘Each ski track is marked with signs that inform where the safe territory ends. Apart from that, 18 rescuers and 22 ski patrol
representatives work in Gudauri and the tracks are also equipped with nets and other protective items.

Due to the natural conditions, the danger of avalanches is increased and it is highly recommended to abide to the rules set by the administration. The tourists must be particularly careful when skiing off-piste in Lomisa, Truso, Kazbegi, Juta, Ushba, Tetnuldi, Ushguli, Bakuriani, Goderdzi, Bakhmaro and Tusheti territories’, Aleksandre Onoprishvili, Mountain Resorts Development Company Director says in a statement.
