“Georgian Association of Social Workers” to present winning projects of CSOs for improved child and family services
The Georgian Association of Social Workers will hold a press-conference on June 2nd, 11:00 to present the winning projects of Georgian CSOs that participated in the Sub-Grants Programme “Collaboration for family preservation in Georgian regions”. The programme is funded by the European Union and Austrian Development Cooperation, in the framework of the regional project Social Workers in Collaboration for Social Change in Eastern Neighbourhood Countries (SWIC)” that GASW implements jointly with Hilfswerk Austria International (HWA), the Armenian Association of Social Workers
(AASW), the Azerbaijan Social Work Public Union (ASWPU) and the Nursing Association of the Republic of Moldova (NARM).

Out of 16 applications five proposals have been selected by an independent Evaluation Committee that will cover six regions of Georgia. The five winning organizations are:
  • Initiative for Social Changes (ISC) – Kakheti region
  • Association Our Home Georgia in cooperation with Association Social Umbrella – Guria / Samegrelo / Kvemo Kartli / Mtskheta-Mtianeti / Shida Karli / Kakheti regions
  • Civic Integration Foundation – Kvemo Kartli region
  • Health and Human Rights Research Center in cooperation with Young Pedagogues’ Union – Guria region
  • Civil Society Development Center – Mtskheta-Mtianeti region
The goal of the Sub-Grants Programme is to support local CSOs to engage in social reforms and contribute to social protection and family preservation, particularly, family strengthening component, through social work practice, increased community participation and inter-agency, inter-system and/or inter-disciplinary partnership.

Target groups of the winning projects will be: social workers, teachers, local community leaders, local authorities of six regions of Georgia, media representatives, civil society organizations, foster parents, young people out of care service, pupils, students, vulnerable children and families.

Thanks to the small grants, social workers, teachers, families, foster parents and other professionals will improve their capacities through targeted trainings about child abuse and its prevention, child protection and family preservation practice as well as positive parenting. In addition, new family support services and prevention mechanisms of child abandonment will be promoted through improved inter-sectorial cooperation and establishment of networks among local authorities, CSOs, schools, hospitals and executive authorities.

All projects will start on 1.6.2017 and be implemented in a period of 8-10 months. In total, EUR 180.000 is awarded for project implementation.
