"Last week Japan was a very active topic in Georgia. We had two reasons for this. One of the reasons was that Georgian Sumoist Levan Gorgodze won the emperor's cup and I was very happy when the Japanese ambassador was the first to congratulate me on this success. Thank you very much Mr. Ambassador, this is our common success.

Japan is also the reason of today’s meeting. I would like to thank the Japanese government and the Mitsubishi corporation for this very important gift. These are 96 units of hybrid and electric vehicles, which is very important for us for establishing a new standard.

Establishment of a high ecological standard in Georgia is one of the most important priorities and part of the strategy of our government. We have already taken important steps in this direction: start of technical inspection of cars, preferential taxation for electric and hybrid vehicles, complete exemption of the import of electric cars from taxation and 60% exemption of the import of hybrid cars from taxation. Care for ecology is the duty of each of us and we have to deal with this very important challenge”, said the PM.

Interior Minister Giorgi Gakharia also thanked the Japanese government for such a significant contribution to the development of the Georgian police with the Mitsubishi vehicles.

As the Minister noted, the Ministry has a specific plan which envisages further reforming of the Patrol Police, complex reforming of the Criminal Police and integrated management of the borders.

"Some of these reforms have already begun. We can already say that the first steps have been taken for structural reforms in the Patrol Police.

At the same time, I would like to point out that the number of pedestrian patrol inspectors is growing on Tbilisi streets," said Giorgi Gakharia.
