Georgia’s Saba literary award to be held within Frankfurt Book Fair

Georgia’s annual literary competition named Saba has been already launched. Authors and publishers are able to present their books oat the competition. This year’s award ceremony will be different and special because it will be held in Germany within the frames of Frankfurt Book Fair, which is the world's largest event of the publishing industry.

The ceremony of Saba Awards will be held in the historic hall of the Frankfurt City Hall on October 12. At the ceremony the best
Georgian authors and books of 2017 will be revealed. The ceremony will also be broadcasted live for Georgian audience.

This year, Frankfurt International Book Fair features Georgia as Guest Country of Honor. Throughout the year, in different cities of Germany, various events are planned to take place aimed at promoting Georgian literature and culture.

The program for promoting the country’s literature for this year’s fair also includes the first ever participation of a Georgian author in a literary section of the Berlinale Film Festival. As a reminder, Dato Turashvili will be the first Georgian writer featured at Berlinale book section. Georgian author’s novel was selected for the very first time to be presented at Berlinale book section, which is part of the official program of the Berlinale Co-Production Market and is organized in cooperation with the Frankfurt Book Fair.

Famous writers, foreign publishers, German officials and international media will attend the ceremony along with Georgian authors and publishers. In 2018 Saba will reward in the following nominations:

Best novel
The best prose collection
Best poetry Collection
Best essay and documentary prose
Best literary debut
The best Georgian translation
Best foreign language translation of georgian work
The best foreign language criticism of Georgian literature
The best foreign language publishing of Georgian literature
Prize for contribution to Georgian-German literary relations

Annual Literary Competition Saba named after distinguished Georgian writer and diplomat Sulkhan-Saba Orbelianiwas founded in 2003 by TBC Bank. The Saba contest will be held for sixteenth time this year.
