Khinkali Georgian dumpling claimed by Russian fast food in Manhattan
Recently, America-based Georgian journalist Tsisnami Sakvarlishvili came across quite unpleasant accident in New-York, Manhattan, in Turnstyle Underground Market.

As Tsisnami reported on her personal Facebook page, Russian fast food store Russian Dumplings by Daa Dumplings was opened in the underground market a few days ago. On the main banner of the fast food, there was a photo of traditional Georgian meet dumpling Khinkali, with the description “
Russian Dumplings”, what means that famous Georgian dish was mentioned as the property of Russian cuisine.

As it was expected, Georgian journalist was outraged. She published the following status on her Facebook page:

“They take away our territories, our lands; they kill our young people, now they are taking away our national cuisine. I address the Embassy of Georgia to the United States, Consulate General of Georgia in New York to immediately demand the answer in response to this fact from the owner of the fast food store. They should either write Georgian Dumplings below the photo of Khinkali, or they should remove the photo at all. We are not the unprotected nation, they cannot oppress us”.
Georgian dish was mentioned as Russian

As Tsisnami reports, after seeing the banner of Khinkali she came to the owner of the fast food and explained to him that he was stealing traditional Georgian dish by such behavior. The owner promised Georgian journalist that he would definitely change the banner.

According to Tsisnami, she is the citizen of Georgia and her anger was completely reasonable.

“I was very angry and upset, people. It is already too much; they should stop making fun of us!” – Georgian journalist wrote.

Finally, she received the answer from the representatives of the Russian fast food. According to them, there was a misconception related with graphic design, which was solved immediately.

“We know that Khinkali is Georgian, we state this clearly in our menu. There has been a graphic design misconception with one of our banners at our store on opening day which we have removed. Please accept our apologies for this misconception. We have no political agendas at Daa! Dumplings” – the representatives of the store apologized.
Khinkali is a Georgian type of dumpling

Khinkali, which is a Georgian type of dumpling, originated in mountainous regions of Mtiuleti, Pshavi and Khevsureti. Later Khinkali varieties spread across the Caucasus region. They are made with mixed pork and beef, sometimes with lamb. You can also use mushrooms, potatoes, or cheese instead of meat as filling for Khinkali.
