Independent international experts arrive in Gudauri to investigate ski-lift accident
International experts from the French international company Bureau Veritas and of the Ministry of Internal Affairs have arrived in Georgia’s winter resort of Gudauri to investigate the ski-lift accident that injured 11 people on Friday.

The experts have started studying the cause of the malfunction of a ski lift Sadzele 5, which is located at the highest point of the Gudauri ski resort, at the elevation of 3279 meters above sea level.

According to the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, the Prosecutor's Office of Georgia, Samkharauli National Forensics Bureau, Construction Supervision Agency of the Ministry of Economy and expert criminalists are involved in the process. Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Gedi Arveladze is in Gudauri.

Georgian Minister of Economy Dimitri Kumsishvili wrote on his official Facebook page that the government welcomes an impartial investigation of the accident to ensure both the safety of citizens and tourists and to protect the international reputation of Georgia.

"It is very important for us the society to have an independent report about what happened on in Gudauri," Dimitri Kumsishvili said with media representatives yesterday.

As the first Vice-Premier noted, the government believes that the report must be absolutely impartial, as it concerns the reputation of our country.

According to the National Tourism Administration, the health condition of the tourists injured in Gudauri has improved.

Patients and their relatives were visited by Tamaz Iorashvili, Deputy Head of the National Tourism Administration of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development.

Patients and their family members say that they will come back to Georgia for spending holidays.

Based on the latest data, only 6 patients remain at the hospital in Tbilisi now. 1 of them will be discharged today.

One of the Russian tourists, who was also injured in Friday’s accident, Oleg Vitrov, immediately returned to Gudauri after he was discharged from the hospital.
Patients and their relatives were visited by Giorgi Chogovadze, the Head of the National Tourism Administration.

Those injured in Gudauri ski lift accident and their accompanying persons were provided with food, accommodation and flight tickets by the National Tourism Administration of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development. All the expenses will be covered by the Mountain Resorts of Georgia.

As a reminder, 11 people were injured due to the breakdown of ski lift in Gudauri ski resort on March 16. The Ministry of Internal Affairs launched an investigation into the case in accordance with Article 275 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which pertains the violation of the safety rules.
