How to rent an apartment for long and short term stays in Georgia
Georgia, especially its capital Tbilisi, has become a major destination for travelers and adventurers of every age in Eastern Europe. Year by year the number of visitors is increasing and the demand on renting apartment in the major cities of the country rises as well. Some travelers prefer guesthouses or apartments instead of hotels, since they stay just for few days at one place and constantly move from one city to another, while people who come for work or studies

When you are e newcomer of course it is not an easy task to find appropriate place to stay, especially if you don’t have an agent or a Georgian friend, who will assist you. In this case it is highly recommended to make a small research before coming to Georgia that will be one step forward to your perfect vacation or stay. So before coming you can visit largest database of online real estate advertisements in Georgia www.saqme.ge, that operates in three languages, Georgian, English and Russian. You can choose an apartment of your choice by selecting the city, district, space and even price. The website provides all the details about the apartment and its facilities. Here one can find almost any kind of information related to the purchase, sale or rent of real estate, apartments included. When you arrive you can contact the owners of apartments you have selected in advance and personally visit and check the conditions. It is desirable to sign the rental agreement, yet majority of owners of the apartment do not comply with this law, but for your security we still recommend you to demand signing the paper.

Rustaveli Avenue

Rustaveli Avenue is the main street of capital of Georgia. It stretches from Freedom Square up to Rustaveli Metro station. Shopping center Merani, different kinds of stores, including Georgian restaurants and souvenir shops are located in the line. Also major buildings like former Parliament, Tbilisi Opera, National Museum and Gallery are located on Rustaveli Avune, so there is a plenty of stuff to see if you decide to rent an apartment in its vicinity. Many foreigners prefer to get an apartment in Sololaki , the historic part of the city with old buildings located on the hill behind the avenue. The prices there are relatively high, yet it depends on the conditions of the apartment as well. As reported, Arabs built a canal in the area to water their gardens. Canal in Arabian is "sululakh”, so the name Sololaki derives from this word. The place is a perfect demonstration of Georgia’s cosmopolitan atmosphere and Art Nouveau style buildings built on the verge of 19th and 20th centuries. One may come across worn-out inscriptions on the beautiful doorways in Latin that reads SALVE and means welcome.

Vake – If you seek posh streets with chic cafes

Vake is an affluent area, favored by wealthy citizens of Tbilisi and foreign diplomats or businessmen currently based in Georgia . It is located around Chavchavadze and Abashidze avenues and it is home to many expats and nouveaux riches. If you prefer greenery and would like to stroll or go for jogging, then Vake would be a nice place, since it boasts famous Vake Park and it is relatively close to the Turtule Lake (Kus Tba) where one can ascend by cable car, bus, car or on foot. Besides, this prestigious part of the city is known for its high-end shopping places and a vast number of café-bars and restaurants.

Saburatlo located in the western part of the city that incorporates Vazha-Pshavela , Nutsubidze and Didi Dighomi (Big Dighomi) is relatively densely populated district where mostly foreign students prefer to rent an apartment for a long term stay. Vazha-Pshavela Avenue is also quite convenient place, since all kinds of transport move through it and it is close to the metro station. Nutsubidze is slightly difficult to get even tough it can be reached by public transport. The district extends over hills parallel to Vazha-Pshavela Avenue. It is close to Lisi Lake, a recreational area in Tbilisi offering 3 kilometer-long walk around the lake, surrounded with greenery. The place is ideal for picnics, boasts fresh air and is a good escape from city’s noise.

Davit Agmashenebeli Avenue named after great Georgian king is one of the main avenues in the historical part of Tbilisi, famous for its 19th-century classical architecture. The avenue is located on the left bank of the Mtkvari River and runs from Saarbrücken Square to Giorgi Tsabadze Street. Much of the area was built by the German contractor Friederich Vezel in the 1880s and was mostly inhabited by German immigrants. Currently named after David IV of Georgia, it was originally called Mikheil Street in 1851, and Plekhanov Street after the Russian revolutionary Georgi Plekhanov from 1918 to 1988. Since 2010, the avenue has undergone major rehabilitation works, which includes the renovation of seventy buildings, as well as the road, sidewalks and street lighting. Additionally, New Tiflis (Also known as New Aghmashenbeli-Renovated Aghmashenebeli has been added to the avenue.) Agmashenebeli is easily accessible by metro at Marjanishvili Station, which is a single stop away from the city's second historical artery - Rustaveli Avenue.

Before renting an apartment carefully inspect the flat to make sure that everything is fine and it meets all your requirements. Keep in mind that you can bargain the price; at least you can try to get some discount, but be prepared that the owner might say that he/she already gives you the flat for a special price.
