Rustaveli Avenue

Rustaveli Avenue is the main street of capital of Georgia. It stretches from Freedom Square up to Rustaveli Metro station. Shopping center Merani, different kinds of stores, including Georgian restaurants and souvenir shops are located in the line. Also major buildings like former Parliament, Tbilisi Opera, National Museum and Gallery are located on Rustaveli Avune, so there is a plenty of stuff to see if you decide to rent an apartment in its vicinity. Many foreigners prefer to get an apartment in Sololaki , the historic part of the city with old buildings located on the hill behind the avenue. The prices there are relatively high, yet it depends on the conditions of the apartment as well. As reported, Arabs built a canal in the area to water their gardens. Canal in Arabian is "sululakh”, so the name Sololaki derives from this word. The place is a perfect demonstration of Georgia’s cosmopolitan atmosphere and Art Nouveau style buildings built on the verge of 19th and 20th centuries. One may come across worn-out inscriptions on the beautiful doorways in Latin that reads SALVE and means welcome.

The avenue is located on the left bank of the Mtkvari River and runs from Saarbrücken Square to Giorgi Tsabadze Street. Much of the area was built by the German contractor Friederich Vezel in the 1880s and was mostly inhabited by German immigrants. Currently named after David IV of Georgia, it was originally called Mikheil Street in 1851, and Plekhanov Street after the Russian revolutionary Georgi Plekhanov from 1918 to 1988. Since 2010, the avenue has undergone major rehabilitation works, which includes the renovation of seventy buildings, as well as the road, sidewalks and street lighting. Additionally, New Tiflis (Also known as New Aghmashenbeli-Renovated Aghmashenebeli has been added to the avenue.) Before renting an apartment carefully inspect the flat to make sure that everything is fine and it meets all your requirements. Keep in mind that you can bargain the price; at least you can try to get some discount, but be prepared that the owner might say that he/she already gives you the flat for a special price.
