The most charming Imeretian Yard of Georgia to be revealed
A competition that will reveal the most beautiful yard in Georgia’s Imereti Region has been announced. The most attractive Imeruli Ezo (Imeretian Yard) will be selected based on several criterias.The winner yard should be decorated in a creative way, yet it should have traditional features characteristic to Imeretian Yard as well. The competition will take place in Imereti, a region situated along the middle and upper reaches of the Rioni River, Western Georgia, in particular in Terjola and Tkibuli Municipalities.
Residents of these municipalities are be able totake part in the competition.

is the competition was initiated by Majoritarian MP of Terjola-Tkibuli United District Elguja Gotsiridze.

According to the Deputy Mayor of Terjola Manuchar Panchulidze, the competition will last until May 30 and the winner will be revealed by the specially commission.

“If you have beautifully and creatively decorated yard, capture it with your camera and send to the Facebook page of Terjola Municipality City Hall indicating the address, owner and phone number. Additional information about the contest will be provided gradually. The winner will be awarded by cash prize. We wish you good luck,” reads the statement released by Terjola City Hall.

As reported by Terjola City Hall, the cash prize would be around GEL 2 000.

Terjola is a small town in Imereti, Georgia. Terjola is situated in the Imereti Lowland in western Georgia, on the right bank of the Chkhara river. It lies on the Tbilisi-Zestaponi highway, 190 km northwest of Tbilisi and 14 km northwest of Zestaponi. Its population is 5,700.

Terjola is first mentioned in the 17th-century sources. It acquired the status of a town in 1983.

The winner will be awarded by cash prize

There are a series of historical and cultural landmarks in the environs of Terjola such as the Skande fortress, the ruins of the Gogni fort and church, and the Chkhalti church complex with its numerous antiquities now displayed in the museums of Georgia.

Imereti is one of the most beautiful regions of Georgia, known for its green landscape and delicious cuisine. The Region is rich in flora and fauna.

Imereti is garced with important historic monuments, such as Castle town of Kutaisi, Bagrati Cathedral, Gelati Monastery Complex, Geguti Castle Hall, Ketskhi Pillar, Promete Cave, ancient Shorapani fortress, etc. Due to the vast number of historic and natural attrcations, the place is popular with tourists, especially during summer season.

Traditionally, Imereti is an agricultural region, known for its mulberries and grapes. Imeretian Yards are also well-known throughout the whole country, as they are decorated with traditional Georgian elements that suits local environment.

Almost every Imeretian yard is full of fruit and walnut trees and becomes especially beautiful during Spring, when the trees blossom and then the surrounding area turns into soft green carpet.

Another typical feature for the Imeretian yards is Kvevri, traditional Georgian clay vessel dug underground. These large earthenware vessels are used for the fermentation, storage and ageing of traditional Georgian wine.

For Georgian people Kvevri means more than just a clay pot used for making and storing wine. It serves as a perfect demonstration that Georgia is the “cradle of wine” and a country with oldest winemaking tradition.
