A new national tobacco control law was adopted by The Parliament of Georgia on May 17, 2017. It was signed by the President of Georgia on May 30, 2017.

As adopted and with its full implementation, this law will be one of the strongest tobacco control laws in the WHO (World Health Organization) European Region and beyond. The legislation may be considered a “next generation tobacco control law”, as in addition to all the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC) time-bound measures, it also contains plain packaging rules.
